Long Live Queen Freddie! :: Completed Edition

Heads up! The series you've all been anticipating is finally coming to life! That's right, Long Live Queen Freddie! is going through it's final stages and coming to a wall near you. There will be two different shows, one in Seattle and one in Tacoma, to spread the love around and to coincide with each city's Pride events.

The series has been in production for about 9 months. The works are all portraits of Freddie Mercury dressed as famous queens throughout history and pop culture. What started as a silly idea a year ago has become so much more to me. It's definitely a fun series first, but I'm also trying to say something that I hope you'll be able to appreciate, understand, and possibly love so much that you'll walk away owning a fun conversational starter to hang on your wall.

There'll be 11 (or more) oil paintings, a couple smaller mixed media drawings, posters, and a limited edition print. The paintings will be roughly $900-$6000. For those with a tighter wallet, the drawings, posters, and prints will run you between $10-$200. There will also be a payment option for the larger pieces. Getting in is free. But if you happen to purchase something, 5% of my profits will go to an LGBT organization (most likely HRC), with the Ghost Gallery also contributing 5% of their profits to the It Gets Better Project from the Seattle show.

Both show openings are set to be pretty fun. There'll be music from DJ Melanin*. He'll be familiar from our wedding. The Seattle show will be at a bar, and we're working on acquiring a special event license for the Fulcrum show in Tacoma, so we can get you some booze while you peruse. If you're bringing kids, come to the Tacoma show, as they won't be able to get into the Seattle bar.

If you can make it, it'd be really great to see you at one of the shows. If you can't make it to an opening, you can still see the series for a couple weeks following each venue's reception. Be mindful of Fulcrum's gallery schedule (Wed & Fri, 12-5pm).

In the meantime, if you haven't already, please RSVP to these two events on Facebook. Or follow my page for more general updates (facebook.com/SeaKnigge).

Long Live Queen Freddie!

Long Live Queen Freddie is a series that celebrates and remembers the greatest voice of Rock, by playing dress up with the most memorable queens of history, fiction, and pop culture.
Like most of my projects, this one emerged from a thought that made me smile a little bit. Whereas most of these thoughts are fleeting, this one was persistent. It ticked away at the back of my head, until one day I finally pulled the trigger and decided to do something with it. And I thought someone would have done a series like this by now, but apparently not. At least, not that I could find.

On average, I'm able to put out about 1 Queen Freddie painting per month. I have 4 done. Currently working on 3. I still have a day job, as well as other projects I'm working on. But what I'd really like is to put out 4 a month, and have a show of at least a dozen by spring. I have no idea how or if I can make that happen, but I'll keep you all in the loop.

Elizabeth II

Bruni (technically not a queen)

Amidala

Here's a little tease of a painting I'll be working on soon.

Frost

I was considering doing a run of 4 color prints of this at 10x14.

If you would be seriously interested in buying a print, either let me know here or on MY FACEBOOK PAGE, sos I can build a general headcount.
